The Soviet-Afghan war took place between the period of 1979 to 1989 for the period of nine years and this war was between Mujahedeen along with small Maoist groups who were against the republic of Afghanistan as well as it had issues with Soviet Republic. Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and United States were the countries who were backing the groups of Mujahidin and that made this war as a cold war proxy war. After the period of Saur revolution, Democratic Republic of Afghanistan was formed and that government had pro-poor and pro-farmer agenda. It also enjoyed close relations with Soviet Union and in year 1978, a treaty of friendship was signed between these two countries in order to support each other during the period of this war. Adolph Dubs was kidnapped and the killed by SetamiMillimilitantsIn 1979 and this brought increase in tensions between Afghanistan and united States as Adolph Dubs was United States Ambassador to Afghanistan. He was killed in an assault which was carried out by Afghan police and that assault was advised by Soviet union.
