Some republics are not as democratic as others. In some countries, such as China, the government only allows members of a certain political party to be candidates for election. This type of control limits the ability of the citizens to elect representatives that reflect their opinions and values. In other republics, elections are not open to every citizen, so the results may not be true. As elections become more open and fair, a republic becomes more democratic.
