The Enlightenment was a movement of bold thinkers who for the first time expanded their thinking.  Instead of allowing themselves to be brainwashed by the church-government they thought scientifically and proved their theories with fact.  Most thinkers of this time were prosecuted or even killed for their boldness in challenging the church's power.  But, the spark was ignited, and people all over the world began to think for themselves.
