What social problems did Progressive reformers reveal beneath the surface in American around the year 1900?

A lot of social and economic activism happened around 1900. The Progressive reformers revealed that the different causes of a dysfunctional society includes conditions and vices such as poverty, high crime rate, drug abuse , gender inequality.

They also brought up credible suggestions and solutions to the societal problems which would help tackle the societal problems such as ensuring there is better security, education, and a more accountable government.
