Since the late 1800s, the United States military has become involved in conflicts all around the world. In some of those, the U. S. responded to circumstances outside this nation's control. At other times, the U. S. initiated the action. What factors do you think should be considered in determining whether or not the United States intervenes militarily in other nations? Does it make a difference whether the U. S. is responding to an already existing conflict or starting a new one? Support your answer with examples from conflicts the U. S. has been involved in since the late 1800s.
