At the failure of the Bay of Pigs in 1959, President Kennedy was quoted to top aides as saying that he wanted to “splinter the CIA operations into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds.” Since its inception these actions have always been controversial. Which argument do you align with? Circle and explain below: Argument A: CIA covert actions have repeatedly done damage to U. S. values and laws as well as to our international foreign policy interest, not to mention America’s reputation.
Argument B: Every major government in the world, friend or foe, has its version of the CIA. The agency is indispensable because its analytical capabilities...conducted by professionals who want to serve and protect the nation. The business of intelligence is always risky and sometimes messy, but the CIA must and will abide.
