One of the biggest influences on the economical and social development of the United States is the difference in economics between the north and the south. Since the colonial days the south would grow cash crops such as cotton, tobacco, and various other cash crops, while the north was where all the factories were. This eventually led to the civil war.Another influence is the various river systems found in the eastern and midwestern United States. Settlers were able to move resources through rivers, lakes, and eventually, canals. This turbocharged the expansion of the United States.
