Is the social contract between the government and citizens of us stable or unstable and why?

The social contract between the government and the citizens is unstable.

One reason can be because this country is supposed to be a direct democracy when really it’s more of a representative democracy. We should be voting directly for a president, when in reality we’re really voting for electors to vote for presidents.
