Why would immigrants have to go through U. S. customs on an "island" before being able to go into a port city? a. To set up employment & housing for themselves in their new country.

b. To take a litercy test that insured they knew English

c. To undergo a series of health and legal inspections which protected the American publie

d. To register to vote and Swear their allegiance to the flag

establishing a new settlement &   the furs that they would bring back to france & sell

sedition laws violated the first amendment to the u.s. constitution, which protects freedom of speech and the press.

it would mean for other coutnries that the speak of them may cause a war or a person from another country talking about it could get arrested and the countiry and other contries could count that as rasisim and start a race war.
