How was the Mongol Empire governed after Genghis Khan's death? His successors tried to make the empire easier to govern by shrinking its size. His sons ruled different parts of the empire while one khan oversaw all of them. His successors were unable to prevent cities from splitting away from the empire. His sons allowed certain territories in the empire to break away and be independent.
