What happened during chapters 1-3 of the watsons go birmingham.

In chapter one of The Watsons Go to Birmingham, we have learned about the Watson family which is made up of Mom, Dad, Joey, Byron and Kenny, who is the narrator. They live in Flint, Michigan where the winters are very cold. ... Mom freed him by pulling his head and by doing that, Byron got freed.  

The older of the two new boys, Rufus, gets put in Kenny's class, and the teacher sits him next to Kenny. At first, Kenny is appalled, because he doesn't want to be perceived as connected with Rufus. He thinks he'll just get picked on twice as much.
