According to this passage, what would happen to a child who is too small to sit up?
The child would be permitted to work for long
hours.
O The child would be forced to work along with
the rest of the family.
The child would be held in a worker's lap or
stowed away in a box.
In the canneries of Baltimore, as is the case in
similar establishments elsewhere, children
are permitted to work for long hours, even
though they may be very young. Incredibly
small are the fingers that work along with
those of the rest of the family, and if the child
is too small to sit up, it is held in the lap of
the worker or stowed away in boxes near to
hand.

Look at the painting the lictors bring to brutus the bodies of his sons by jacques-louis david (1789). the most likely message this painting sends to french citizens is that one must be prepared to sacrifice their own children to preserve france. loyalty to one’s country stops short of sacrificing one’s own children. brutality is an integral part of revolution and the reign of terror. no one is immune to death, not even the leaders of the revolution.
