How did Northern interests present problems for the Reconstruction efforts?
The citizens in the North were growing tired of the
Southern focus and wanted more attention paid to their
own needs from government.
The Northern industries were resentful of changes being
made in the South and wanted to divert attention back to
their own expansion.
Politicians in the North were spending all their time
strategizing about the Southern economy and not
supporting "home rule."
Corruption in Southern governments was expanding to the
North, where it had been minimal before; Northerners
wanted it stopped.
