Una mañana de asueto, durante un paseo con mis primos por las afueras del pueblo, tropezamos inesperadamente con un montículo que nos pareció ser una diminuta pirámide. Regresamos alborozados
y contamos desesperadamente nuestro hallazgo a los mayores. Sonrientes movieron la cabeza: creyeron
que se trataba de otra invención de María Luisa, una de mis primas que había creado toda una mitología
de seres misteriosos. Sin embargo, a los pocos días nos visitó el arqueólogo Manuel Gamio, amigo
antiguo de nuestra familia. Oyó sin inmutarse nuestro relato y esa misma tarde lo guiamos hacia el sitio
de nuestro descubrimiento. Al ver el montículo nos explicó que probablemente era un santuario
consagrado a Mixcoatl, divinidad que dio nombre a nuestro pueblo antes de la conquista.
