Because they have opposite beliefs that contradict one another, republicans believe that people should have rights and be who they are fully, democrats are more to the strict, christian beliefs. for example democrates are against homosexual marriage because its against the beliefs of christianity however republicans allow it because they believe its their life and they should be the ones living it
