Charles de Montesquieu, a French philisopher who died in 1755 influnced the writers of the Constitution with the below quote.

"When the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person, or in the same body...there can be no liberty...the same monarch or senate could enact tyrannical laws...Again, there is no liberty if the judiciary power be not separated

from the legislative and executive".
