L'Ouverture's advance to Santo Domingo was successful in gaining an alliance because it allowed him to defeat the Spanish troops that ruled that portion of Hispanola, the former name of Santo Domingo.

He created alliances that strengthened the revolutionary movement against France. Haitian slaves declared their loyalty to the revolution against the French monarchy.Toussaint Louverture (1743-1803) was the most important leader of the Haitian independence movent.He called himself the General in Chief of the Black Army. Toussaint Louverture dared to fight against the powerful European Army. His courage and dedication inspired the black Haitian people. He was considered the Father of Haiti. He was a native of the island, at that time, known as Saint-Domingue, He was a slave, years later he got his freedomThat is when he became a jacobine who supported the revolutionary ideas of freedom and equality.

We conclude that Toussaint Louverture was the most prominent figure of the Haitian Revolution.

He drafted the first Constitution and abolished slavery on the island.
