Summary of “Rip Van Winkle”: A kind man named Rip once lived in a village by the Catskills Mountain before settlers came. The village loved him and he loved the village. However, his wife always complained that he was too lazy to work. Finally, after tired of his wife nagging him, he decides to take a break in the mountains along with his dog, Wolf beside him. After resting, he notices a tiny man carrying a barrel. Since Rip was kindhearted, he offered to help carry it. After walking, the man stops at the tip of the mountain where Rip sees several tiny men drinking and playing ninepins. Rip was forced to stay and hand out drinks but soon, he started to sneak sips of wine himself. Finally, after leaving, he suddenly feels light-headed and loses consciousness. Waking up, he realized he has turn into an old man. Confused, he returned back to his village but couldn’t recognize anybody. Then he learns that the wine he sipped had caused him to sleep for 20 years. He also learns that his wife had died and his children had grew up to adults. After reuniting with them, the story ends there.

Rip Van Winkle is similar to Hank Morgan from “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” are similar because they are both  determined to do something and each receive an event that caused a huge impact in their lives.
