How does Mr. White feel while conversing with his family about the monkey’s paw after Sergeant-Major Morris leaves?

“The Monkey’s Paw,” by W.W. Jacob is a supernatural story. The author creates suspense following Mr. White’s second wish when there is a knock on the door. It could be inferred as their son Hilbert has returned. As Mrs. White opens the door she in fear closes the door and Mr. White searches for the paw frantically and makes the last wish of not letting his wife see the dead body of their son.
