List the three-part government of the British colonies and tell what each part did.

Governor: The governor was responsible for managing the legislative assemblies in Upper and Lower Canada, but remained the only British authority in force in North America. He held civil and military powers and managed revenues from crown lands.
Council Of Advisers: The council acted primarily as a chamber of revision, reviewing and improving legislation. At times, it would argue with the assembly over the amendment of money bills or other legislation. In addition to being both an executive and legislative body, the council also had judicial authority.
An Elected Assembly: The assemblies usually met for a single, brief session, although the council or governor could and sometimes did call a special session. The assembly's role was to make all local laws and ordinances, ensuring they were not inconsistent with the laws of England.
