The Chesapeake region was comprised of the Virginia and Maryland colonies. The soil in this region was fertile and good to grow cash crops. Indeed, in Jamestown, Virginia, John Rolfe started to grow tobacco with a lot of success. Tobacco became the king of crops in the colony of Virginia and was exported to Europe.
