One reason why John Adams was not reelected as President in the election of 1800 is because Adams disagreed with Hamilton's idea that war would weaken the Democratic Republicans, which caused a split in the Federalist Party. Another reason that Adams was not reelected is because he did not get enough votes for the electoral vote and lost the popular vote. Adams also supported the Alien and Sedition act.
When he was president the people thought he was weak. He also only favored the rich business owners and wealthy people so the farmers and regular people voted for Jefferson.
