Describe Rome in the early 1400s and explain some of the problems the city was experiencing

The Western Schism occurred in Europe around the end of the 1300s and start of the 1400s. This was fractions and split in the Catholic Church, which led to three people claiming they were the pope. As a result, there were many fights across Rome. After this was settled, the Renaissance began.
