Is Downtown Eastside dangerous?

Not every part of Downtown Eastside is dangerous, but there are definitely some sketchy neighborhoods, should you decide to travel off the beaten path. Some areas are known for the high level of drugs, and most dealers aren't shy and might offer you a sample of their product. Walking along these streets can give one an obvious view of the drug use in this area, in addition to the amount of homelessness. Better to not walk alone at night, and stay to well-lit alleys. In addition, parking your car in Downtown East side for a prolonged period of time is not a particularly good idea, especially if you have valuables in the car, due to high risk of theft.

However, the city of Vancouver itself is known for its natural beauty, shopping malls, entertainment, and food from many cultures, and is a popular tourist destination.
