How is the enlightenment movement best described?

During that time people were discussing and figuring who they were as a person.  It was also a time where philosophers were coming up with evidence about the solar system and the universe.  Philosophers believed differently from the Catholic church and this caused constant arguing and doubt to many Europeans.
