Why did the Whigs rise as a political party? Problems with the economy resulted in their popularity.
The Democrats were sympathetic to the North and its industrial power causing support to go to the Whigs.
The Whigs were pro-South which promoted an economic boost to the United States.
Other political parties were involved in illegal activities which drew the public to the Whig Party.
