Read this paragraph from a student's essay. Long before Flannery O'Connor found success as a writer, she had a
brief brush with fame. As a five-year-old in Georgia, O'Connor had a
chicken that could walk both forward and backward. In her essay "Living
with a Peacock," O'Connor recalls how a photographer from Pathé News
came from New York to Savannah to film her with her chicken. She
describes how the experience influenced her to raise fowl all her life.
