Lincoln: Interesting Story When Lincoln was 22 he moved to New Salem, Illinois. In
that town there was a group of rowdy boys called The
Clary Grove's boys. They enjoyed fighting, drinking, and
betting that they could wrestle better than anyone else
in the county. Jack Armstrong, the group's leader,
challenged Lincoln to a fight. A crowd formed to watch
the match and most people bet against Lincoln. At first,
neither boy could get the upper hand. Then, Armstrong
tried an unfair move which enraged Lincoln. Lincoln
overpowered Armstrong and won. The crowd was upset
and were about to attack Lincoln. Instead, Armstrong
shook Lincoln's hand, announced that Abe was better
than him, and they became fast friends.
