Could someone read over my essay and check if it is good? The prompt is evaluate the reactions of Americans during the 1920s to the economic & social changes of the Jazz Age.
In the 1920s the nation was prosperous and the standard of living was going up in an atmosphere of growth and new innovations such as the automobile and radio. New economic and social changes were brought to the country during this period. One major economic change of the 1920s was the introduction of new business strategies such as mass production and advertisement, a major social change was prohibition.

New business strategies made Americans buy a greater amount of products. Businesses utilized mass production which allowed them to lower the prices of their products. Americans reacted by purchasing more products due to the lower prices. Another strategy that boosted sales was advertisement. Advertisement pressured Americans to buy products by making them more enticing but they weren’t necessarily needed and were more of a want but the persuasive advertisements pushed them into purchasing. Installment plans were also used to make Americans purchase more products. Installment plans convinced Americans that they were able to afford a product resulting in more and more products being bought and put on a instalment plan. In reality many Americans couldn’t afford these products and went into debt as a result. The conflict over prohibition brought more divided reactions to the nation than the economic changes of the 1920s.

In the 1920s America was divided by prohibition. Some opposed the law and broke it viewing drinking as a pastime, others supported it and saw drinking as disgraceful, and some benefited from the law. Typically modernists opposed prohibition and traditionalists supported it.

Speakeasies developed under prohibition, in speakeasies modernists consumed illegal alcohol symbolizing their opposition and indifference towards prohibition.
Another development in opposition to prohibition was bootleggers smuggling in alcohol from other countries such as Canada where it was then consumed by modernists.
Due to high demand of illegal liquor many Americans started smuggling liquor from other countries where they could make great profit by selling their liquor and benefit from prohibition.
