Hitler developed the myth that the Aryan people were supreme and everyone else, (particularly the Jews) was inferior -- much inferior. The war in Russia was so vicious because, in part, Hitler also hated slavs.

The 1936 Olympics was supposed to be Hitler's showcase where in he proved the superiority of Aryans.

The most publicized events were the 100,200, long jump and the 400 meter or yard (sorry don't remember which) race. All 4 were won by 1 person who was an African American. That was shattering. Hitler didn't even hang around to congratulate the winner.

His great plan backfired.

The Nazis used the 1936 Berlin Olympics as a propaganda to show the might of Nazi Germany to the World. The super colosseum made for the game is one of the biggest stadiums that even still stand today. Most of the audience saluted to Hitler which just by that showed the mass amount of support for him. He made sure that everything was captured on camera to be further used as propaganda. As Nazi banners hang down from the top of the stadium the parade of German participants had flags of in their hands showing off their patriotic display for the World. The purpose of this was not only to show the World how strong Germany became but to rally more Germans for the inevitable war that was going to break out sooner or later. Which did in 1939, three years after the Olympics.
