How did citizens of the United States respond to the Mexican American war

The United States won the war and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. The treaty gave the U.S. lands that would become the states of Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, southwestern Colorado, and southwestern Wyoming. Mexico received 15 million dollars and gave up its claims to Texas.

The U.S. won the Mexican-American war and the where able to annex Texas. The Southern States where glad to have another slave state in the union but people that lived up north where upset because now the amount of slave states and free states where unequal.
