Prior to the creation of Magna Carta, the power of the king in English monarch was considered to be absolute, The kings can act above the law and punish whoever he see fit.

English parliament pushed for the creation of Magna Carta to limit the government power.

The document made ensure that the Kings' actions should be liable by the law like any other citizens. It prevented the nobles from abusing their power and made sure that citizens' rights were protected under the law.
