The First World War in Russia was highly unpopular as many military officials treated Russian soldiers poorly and the loss of territory to the Germans was daily. This caused massive civil and political instability. Nicholas II was becoming more and more unpopular as his indecisive actions would make him the head of the Russian Army and let his German wife run the country while he was away. His leadership in the military was disasterous and did not help the war effort which ruined his reputation even more causing more chaos in Russia.
