Why did the members of the Second Continental Congress feel that writing the Declaration of Independence was an important thing to do? They hoped other countries would read it and support America's desire for freedom by declaring war on Great Britain. They believed Great Britain would understand why they wanted freedom if they would read this document. They wanted to document the supplies and number of soldiers they would need if they went to war. They wanted everyone to know what America was fighting for if they were to go to war with Great Britain.
