In what ways were the lives of early Muslim men and women different?

Women had certain rights such as being able to own and inherit property. Every woman had to have a male guardian. Parents or guardians arranged marriages for children, and men were allowed to have up to 4 wives. A dowry had to be paid to their brides once they married, so most men could only afford one wife. Divorce was allowed in certain circumstances, and adultery was completely forbidden.
