What can we learn from the civil rights movements of 1920s?

An era dedicated to activism for equal rights and treatment of African Americans in the United States. During this period, people rallied for social, legal, political and cultural changes to prohibit discrimination and end segregation.

The best lesson we can learn is that great powers can not be free from foreign commitments, from being involved in global affairs, because this neglect will in the end bring negative consequences. It is imposible, given the degre of interconnection among all nations.

After World War One, president Woodrow Wilson promoted the League of Nations, an international organization that was supposed to promote peace and security in the  world. But then the Unites States refused to join it and also refused to ratify the Treaty of Versailles. Isolationism won. Besides, the League of Nations had no legal instruments to enforce their peacekeeping decisions.  Lesson were learned the hard way in the 1920s and 1930s, a time that saw the rise of fascim and totalitarianism; another world war and dozens of millions of dead were part of that process.    Permanent global involvement of strong nations is inevitable, it´s part of the balance and order in the world.

1) checks and balances- this idea is implemented in the constitution to ensure that no one branch of the federal government gains too much power. for example, the legislative branch(congress) can approve a bill that will then be sent to the executive branch (president). if the president does not like the bill or thinks that it violates the rights of citizens, he/she can veto the bill. vetoing the bill stops the bill from becoming a law. this check on power ensures that congress makes laws that do not violate the rights of citizens.

2) anti-federalists do not want to ratify the constitution unless it includes a bill of rights. the anti-federalists are worried that the constitution gives too much power to the federal government. having a strong central government caused problems when the us was still part of great britain. this is why the anti-federalists are fearful of this type of system.

3) federalists want a new constitution passed because it will fix america's weak political structure. before the us constitution is implemented, the constitution being used is known as the articles of confederation. this constitution has an extremely weak central government, allowing for disunity among the states.
