When Andrew Jackson was elected president in 1828, he claimed to represent the “common man”. Jackson’s belief was that power should reside with the working man, and the idea of spreading power to all men through majority rule became known as “Jacksonian Democracy”. Large numbers of farmers and working men voted for him. He was famous for being the hero of the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812 which also helped him win the presidency. Jackson believed in limited government but with a strong president.

he believed that congress would be better not dealing with "lobbyists", or people who seek to influence (a politician or public official) on an issue, since historically, they had problems with these kinds of people. he thought lobbying produces benefits, but should be carefully monitored.

first industrial revolution - the first wave of the industrial revolution lasted from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s. it industrialized the manufacture of textiles and began the move of production from homes to factories. steam power and the cotton gin played an important role in this period.
