PLEASE I NEED HELP ASAP After Mexico gained its independence
from Spain in 1821, they encouraged many
Americans to move into their holdings in
Texas by giving huge plots of land to
them, under the condition that the
Americans would live by the rules
established by the Mexican government
(settlers must not engage in slavery,
settlers had to convert to Roman
Catholicism, settlers must swear loyalty
to Mexico, etc.). Why do you
think Mexico encouraged Americans to
move into Texas?
