Until recently, textbooks often referred to the Americas as the “New World,” Europe as the “Old World,” and used the term “Columbian Exchange” to describe when the two “worlds” met. Why do you think this language has fallen out of use? What do those phrases tell you about how historians and textbook authors thought about the Americas and Europe?
