While its not really the best way of thinking, the Japanese did plenty of war crimes in the Pacific. Take a look at Nanking (i wouldn't suggest it if you're squeamish) as well as the secret units that were made for human experimentation.

The Soviets were coming in August off 1945 in the Soviet Invasion of Manchuria, a massive force numbering roughly 12 million that had begun pushing its way into Berlin after long lines of battle on the Eastern front.

From this, it could be deemed unnecessary to drop  the bomb as the war could've been ended as Japan most likely would have surrendered from the pressure of Soviet invasion (which was the case, it  wasn't the bombs that made them surrender).
