"People had very unrealistic expectations of what the Olympics could do," says Ken Bernhardt, a marketing professor at Georgia State University. He says it was not practical to count on a long-term economic boost. "The impact was big," Bernhardt says. "It was short term with some infrastructure improvements and cleaning up downtown. What reason would anybody have to expect that that expenditure would have a big impact 15 years later?"

According to Ken Bernhardt, how long did the economic boost provided by the Olympics last?

O There was a huge short-term boost that did not last in the long term.
O Both the short-term and long-term benefits to the city were substantial.
O The Olympics had very few short-term or long-term effects for Atlanta.
O There was little impact in the short term, but a major effect in the long term.
