In the 14th century, Temasek was a sizeable port city, with a population of perhaps
thousands of people. Ships from many great kingdoms of Asia anchored in its harbour
In 1320, Chinese officials came to this place they called Dan Ma Xi to request for 'tamed
elephants'. In response to this, the Temasek kingdom sent representatives bearing gifts
to China. Apart from this, the kingdom's armies also fought off as many as two
invasions.
