The Great Depression was the largest and longest economic decline in U. S. history. People were left jobless, homeless, and hungry. Florida was no different. With Florida already suffering from damage caused by hurricanes, the Great Depression hit Florida sooner than the rest of the country. One problem was that once the stock market crashed people had very little money. As a result, they no longer vacationed in Florida. A large part of Florida's economy relied on tourism. To make matters worse, a swarm of fruit flies destroyed many of Florida's citrus crops. Based on evidence from the text, why did people no longer wish to vacation in Florida?
