How can colonizing a new territoryland) be difficult?

There’s definitely nothing easy on colonizing a new territory. Let’s start with the fact that it’s a whole new environment, with different land features, animals, plants, and weather. Imagine fighting the unknown, having to survive rouge conditions and to conquer the natural barriers. Then on top of that most likely you will have to confront natives, whether u build a peaceful relationship or the contrary. You would also have to compete with other countries for the territory, as everyone wants land, unless it’s already in your possession. These are just to name a few. But even the getting there can be difficult, for example British colonizers didn’t have it easy in getting to the Americas through the Atlantic waters.
