the hollywood film industry of 1950 was threatened on several different fronts. television broadcasting was rapidly becoming the dominant entertainment medium in the united states. the paramount anti-trust consent decree requiring separate ownership for production companies and theater chains had gone into effect on 1 january 1950. large numbers of young men and women were marrying, having children, and moving to the suburbs, which affected the viability of downtown first-run movie theaters. foreign revenues were endangered by protectionist tactics including quota systems, high taxes, and blocked funds. finally, the morality and patriotism of hollywood films and filmmakers were under attack from government, religious, and citizens' groups.

it limited free speech.   so in other words people could not talk bad about the government   or the flag

mcsween, along with his partner john tunstall opened a store and bank within the range of "the house" and wanted to try and be the top dominate power within three years opening. "the house" didn't like this and entered into a civil suit with them.

the judge took in favor of "the house" and confiscated their store and took claim of tunstall's livestock. tunstall  went to oppose the taking of his land. when he went to challenge the "posse" that was formed by the local sherriff, and he was met with a fight and ultimately killed. mcsween was a former lawyer and tried to take the route of the law. he wrote letters to get warrants out for tunstall's killers. eventually, the violence escalated and this is how "billy the kid" began.
