For this assessment, you are going to create your own informative and creative photo story. Here is a quick summary of the assessment requirements.

Step 1: Study the list of nine images at the bottom of the screen and select five that represent what you believe were the greatest factors that contributed to the fall of the Soviet Union. There is no correct order for this activity; however, you must be able to justify the order that you have selected.

Step 2: Create a photo story by arranging the images in order of importance and write a description for each image.

Each description should include the following elements:

The description should be two to four sentences in length.
The description should explain Who, What, Where, When, and Why the person/event is important.
Step 3: Finally, you will need to explain your choices by writing a one-paragraph summary explaining your ranking and providing an overall picture of the demise of communism in the Soviet Union.

Image Descriptions:

Fall of the Berlin Wall: A photograph of a crowd of people standing at the Brandenburg Gate. Some are standing on the Berlin Wall. Some are standing below it.
Gorbachev appointed as Communist Party General Secretary: A photograph of Gorbachev giving a speech. He is standing at a podium with two microphones.
1956 Hungarian Uprising: A black-and-white photograph of a street in Budapest in 1956. The air is full of smoke. There are tanks and guns moving through the streets.
Prague Spring: A black-and-white photograph showing a tank rolling down a city street. There are soldiers sitting on the tank.
Détente: A photograph of Russian Premier Brezhnev sitting and speaking with President Richard Nixon.
Solidarity: The mark of the Polish Trade Union, Solidarity.
Velvet Revolution: A color photograph of Czechs placing Czech flags and roses at an outdoor memorial.
1991 coup d'état in Moscow: A color photograph of Red Square. There is a tank in the foreground.
Romanian Revolution: An aerial photograph showing hundreds of people marching through the streets and amongst tanks.
