Why did the pope send the inquisition out to the european lands?

Heresy. They organizations prosecuting the heresies were not always in the direct control of the Pope. The relationship between Popes and Kings and religious and civil courts should not be assumed to be like modern institutions. Watch out for anachronism and exaggeration when learning about how the 14th century Church.
