How did the roman republic end and lead to the roman empire?

The Roman Republic ended when Julius Caesar returned home triumphant against Carthage. When Julius returned home, many Romans hailed Julius as a Caesar, and that prompted him to step up and lead Rome. The Senate, however, disapproved, and stabbed him too death in a attempt to keep the Republic. However, many people's hearts were already turned into having a leader over them instead of a house (of representatives), and the roman empire was borned. Hope this was helpful
