What contribution did t-patchers make in world war 2

They were the backbone of the Fifth Army. And when Salerno was threatened and everyone else retreated the 36th division (as it was also known) held true and proud. They had a difficult time and gave more than they had to spare. 
At some point they had been captured, however they went down spitting hellfire.
