How did american sugar planters go outside the law to gain control over hawaii

US marines stormed the island and overthrew the Queen of Hawaii without the US President's consent. However, the US Marines did this because the sugar planters had been protesting and staged an uprising, by asking the US Marines to storm the island and to give the sugar planters (who were Americans) protection.
